greg: so friday should be an interesting day at the naval academy...
I agree. Long story short is that on Friday the "Equality Ride" is going to be protesting the 'Dont Ask, Dont Tell' (DADT) policy outside our gates and then attending our parade. They wanted to have a press conference, be able to question midn, and eat lunch in King Hall, but the Supt gave them the big DENIED!
" . . . the Naval Academy “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” forces young gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender midshipmen to live a lie as a condition of service. . . . the Naval Academy continues to give a lesson in real world oppression "
These people feel that DADT harbors an atmosphere that is not conducive to GAY, LESBIAN, BISEXUAL, OR TRANSEXUAL--pardon me, transgender-- (GLBT) midshipmen.
1) Get your facts straight and do yourself the favor of making a cohesive argument. The DADT policy allows these people to serve. Without it they would simply be asked about their sexual orientation and booted if they admitted to homosexuality.
2) I love the fact that in the United States we have the freedom to say what we want without fear of the Gestapo breaking down our door. The power and might of America's military has secured that right for its citizens. But sometimes instead of just questioning every single action of the government you could understand that the military knows how to do its job. Keep some perspective, the issue at hand is not the murder of innocent civilians or the carpet bombing of friendly villages here. So maybe you should just thank the government for the rights that it has provided to you and trust that it will continue to protect it citizens.

What is our world coming to . . . ?
